InMe are
one of the hottest Rock bands around at the moment, and better
than that, they are home-grown hailing from the well known county
of Essex. They recently released their debut album Overgrown
Eden and this will shortly be followed by the fourth single
to be taken from the CD, Neptune. InMe guitarist
and vocalist Dave McPherson answers a few questions:
NDF: You started playing music together
when you were only 13 years old, when did you decide that you
wanted to make it a career?
Dave: I don't think we ever consciously made a decision
to make a career out of this, it just kinda fell in to place for
us really! I think we¹d still be messin' around with InMe
even if we were not doing well.
NDF: What kind of music did you first start
out playing and who were your influences?
Dave: I think originally we played a kinda poppy, punky
Nirvana type thing but as we have progressed as a band we have
defined our own sound. We don't have one particular influence
but I think sub-consciously bands such as Pink
Floyd, Nirvana and The Police have inspired us along the way.
NDF: What was the first song you wrote together
and how does it compare to the music you are producing now?
Dave: The first song we wrote as a band was called OEacid
drop, it was kinda like 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' but it was pretty
good considering we were about thirteen! I think we can come up
with better these days so I doubt we will bring it back!
NDF: What would you say you have that stands
you apart from all the other alternative rock bands around at
the moment?
Dave: We don't really go out of our way to have an original
novelty as such, but we simply play from our hearts and because
we are such an organic band we tend to have our own sound anyway.
I think a lot of people who like us
appreciate the emotion we put into what we do. But who knows!
NDF: How does it feel to have achieved so
much success at such a young age and what do you ultimately hope
the band will accomplish.
Dave: It feels great that our childhood hobby as friends
has taken us this far! We wake up and realise how lucky we are
but also feel very proud of each other because we have all put
so much into this and our dream is coming true. Our ambition is
to take InMe as far as it can go before we stop enjoying it and
have gone as far as we think we deserve to go!
NDF: Your debut album is to be released
next week, how would you describe its overall sound and what did
you enjoy most about recording it?
Dave: I would say it is a great example of what we can
do as a debut. We were not in the public eye when we recorded
it and the innocence of the album is reflected in that. To us
it is pure emotion contained within melodic rock with lots of
twists! Recording the album was a hard experience but we learnt
a lot from it so I think we will be very ready next time, I hope!
I enjoy laying guitars down the most because for me that is the
easiest.

NDF: What has been your most memorable experience
whilst being part of InMe?
Dave: We have been in InMe for a third of our lives so
it is incredibly hard to choose one experience! But last year
as a whole was amazing because we got to do our album and start
touring, which is a surreal way of life.
NDF: What gives you the most pleasure and
why: writing new material, recording, touring or finding out chart
positions?
Dave: I think we draw pleasure from a lot of factors that
come with being in a band but touring is tiring but usually a
very uplifting way of life, you feel free. Recording is also great
because you see your ideas fall into place.
NDF: What does it feel like to tour with
bands like Puddle of Mudd and Hundred Reasons and how do crowds
respond to you as a support act?
Dave: It is awesome to play with such cool bands and we
feel very lucky indeed. Usually as a support act we seem to go
down pretty well and sometimes it can really get rockin'.
NDF: You are soon to be playing your first
live European shows, what kind of places are you visiting and
what are you looking forward to most about this tour?
Dave: we are gonna play italy and japan soon which I can¹t
wait for as I have never been to either of them! Japan will be
mad because I think I will really dig that place.
NDF: What can fans expect from InMe in 2003?
Dave: Just that we will keep doing any shows thrown at
us because they get funnier every time. We will be working full
time on InMe this year and we will just try as hard as we can.
